This collection of 35 poems explores our relationship with the precious natural world and reflects on its seasonal shifts and tones, using four colours – Blue, Green, Orange and White – to represent spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively.

Rosalind Davie has a PhD in English Literature and writes poetry purely for pleasure. Her interest in the natural world is explored through a mystic lens and illumined by a deep personal need to be near nature, whether through walking gardening, or simply sitting and observing.

Blue
Blue – like liquid enamel, ethereal yet palpable,
Veiling spring skies in a velutinous shimmer.

An entirety and eternity of turquoise depths,
Embedded with cobalt, azure and sapphire.

There is perfection in blue, colour of sorrow,
Colour of joy, sublimity in one hue

With touches, traces, flashes and echoes
In unfathomable myriads of mystic depths.

How is it that blue is both twilight and morning?
It is elusive, nebulous, enigmatic, imaginary.

For blue is a holy colour, draping the secret world,
Like curtains of gauze in a sacred temple.
